Madras Engineer Group & Centre’s parade ground came to life on Friday as 181 trainees passed out as soldiers. They will next move to their units, said a release from the Ministry of Defence.

Six contingents of smartly dressed soldiers, with blue ceremonial turbans, gold and maroon waistbands and white spats on their boots, marched to the tunes of the military band. The recruits performed a drill before a 3,000-strong audience of officers, soldiers and parents of the new recruits. The organisation also presented ‘Gaurav Padaks' to the parents.

Lieutenant General S.P. Nawathe, Colonel Commandant of Madras Sappers and General Officer Commanding of Headquarters 101 Area, reviewed the parade and congratulated the new recruits. He presented the Best in Combat Engineering medal to Sapper Sai Kumar, Best in Drill to Sapper Sulesh P.C. and Best In Weapon Training to Sapper Sharon Dass.

“Men of the half year” awards were presented to nine Sappers of different engineer regiments.
