12 African nationals arrested for overstaying

The Yelahanka police conducted a drive on Saturday and arrested 12 African nationals, who were allegedly overstaying in the city.

The accused — from Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Kenya, and other African countries — had come to the city on tourist and student visas. They, however, continued to stay in the city despite the expiry of their travel documents, according to the police.

Based on a tip-off from their FRRO counterparts, the police conducted the drive and arrested the accused. They have been booked under under various sections of the Passports Act and the Foreigners Act.

The accused have been remanded in judicial custody.
