Russia’s Irkut Corporation has confirmed a contract to buy 34 sets each of the flight-critical radar computer I and II made by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., a statement said.

The contract, firmed up during the ongoing Aero India 2013, is worth Rs. 65 crore and the radars will be delivered from January 2014 onwards from HAL’s new facility at Kasaragod.

RC-I helps to coordinate avionics-related mission operations of the aircraft and RC-II coordinates operations within the radar system.

The Hyderabad-based Avionics Division has been manufacturing the radar computers since 2004 and these went into the radar system of the Sukhoi-30MkI fighters. So far it has produced 300 each of the computers for various aircraft programmes of the IAF, the Russian Air Force and the Algerian Air Force, the latter through the Russian commercial arm Rosoboronexport.
