BJP national president Amit Shah on Tuesday offered prayers at Sri Arunachaleswarar Temple in Tiruvannamalai. He also visited the Sri Ramana Maharishi Ashram.

Mr. Shah arrived in a helicopter and landed at the helipad set up on the Government Arts College campus. After his visit to the ashram located on the Girivalam path, he visited Sri Arunchaleswarar Temple.

Mr. Shah was accompanied by Union Minister of State Pon. Radhakrishnan, BJP national general secretary Muralidhar Rao, national secretary H. Raja and State president Tamilisai Soundararajan.

No permission for rally

Police security was stepped up across the temple town in view of his visit. Ms. Soundararajan had planned to organise a two-wheeler rally to welcome Mr. Shah from the ashram but a senior police official said it was not allowed due to security reasons.

Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister Sevur S. Ramachandran, Member of Parliament Vanaroja and Members of Legislative Assembly greeted him on his arrival.
