A 23-year-old youth from Uttar Pradesh died while undergoing treatment at King George Hospital, after he was rescued from being drowned at R.K. Beach, here on Saturday evening. The deceased was identified as Siva Ganesh alias Pandit.

Five friends -- four from Uttar Pradesh and one from Madhya Pradesh -- working at a private tile manufacturing company in Lankelapalem ventured into the waters on Saturday evening.

While two of them were in the safe zone, three ventured into the danger zone and were sucked in deeper by the rip current.

The community guards present at the beach, jumped into the waters and risked their lives to save two of them and even brought Siva Ganesh alive to the shores.

“We brought him ashore and performed the required first aid, before shifting him to King George Hospital. But he died while undergoing treatment, as he had drunk a lot of water and his breathing had slowed down,” said Demudu, a community guard.

The Three Town Police registered a case. The swimming deaths in Visakhapatnam beaches have already crossed 25 in this year.
