Woman raped in broad daylight in Visakhapatnam

Auto-rickshaw driver records a video of the act in his cell and forwards it to the city police WhatsApp number.

A 35-year-old destitute was raped allegedly by 25-year-old lorry driver near Srinivasa Kalyana Mandapam in the Railway New Colony area in Visakhapatnam on Sunday afternoon. The accused, G. Shiva, is a resident of the city.

According to IV Town Sub-Inspector K. Suresh, the accused raped the woman on the footpath and the incident came to light after an auto-rickshaw driver recorded a video of the act in his cell and forwarded it to the city police WhatsApp number.

The police said they were yet to establish whether the woman was mentally challenged or not, as she was in deep shock.

She was sent to hospital for medical tests.

The police said it was also not known whether the accused was under the influence of alcohol or a drug-addict.

A case was registered and investigation is on.
