Finance Minister’s proposal to raise personal income tax limit to Rs. 3 lakh for senior citizens is a welcome move. There are many senior citizens who have done a lot for the country but are not covered under any pension scheme. They rely on the savings. This initiative will be significant for them, especially those senior citizens who are the sole bread winners in the family. This would mean an increase of Rs. 5,000 per month for them.

Growth-oriented

Mr. Jaitley’s decision to allocate Rs. 5 billion for addition of five new IIT and IIM institutes in newer states is a step forward. The reduction of excise on automobiles, electronic gadgets etc, the putting on hold hike in LPG and other fuels and the increase of minimum pension to Rs. 1,000 reflect the government’s commitment towards keeping the budget directed towards economic growth. With plans to develop and modernise the existing mid-sized cities, I hope Vizag will witnesses some fast-paced development this financial year.

Good for us

It’s great to know that the proposed reduction in excise duty on footwear. So we pay less for shoes and also branded wear and precious stones. Now we can buy quality shoes from better brands.

Great relief

With prices of computers coming down, I can now buy it with better configuration and features. Cutting prices of mobile phones is also a great relief for the student community. Ours is a very tech-savvy generation and we are always glued to smartphones. Now we can also convince our parents to buy mobile phones of better brands and features.
