The Police Commissionerate in the city will get a facelift soon at a cost of ₹75 crore. The State government will release the funds in instalments of ₹25 crore per annum for three years.

The fund would be utilised in a phased manner and a chunk of it would be spent on the construction of a five-floor building for the Police Commissionerate, City Police Commissioner Mahesh Chandra Laddha said.

“At present, the Police Commissionerate runs from a British era vintage building spread over a huge tract land. Our idea is to have a modern office with all the key departments such as Special Branch, Command Control Centre, Traffic Department working in close proximity,” Mr. Laddha said while giving details of the project.

Command and Control Centre

The Command and Control Centre (CCC), the Commissioner said, would be among the prime focus areas in the next few months as around 2,100 CCTV cameras installed at various vantage points in the city would be connected to it.

This apart, the funds will be utilised to build about five to six new police stations with the office of zone ACPs.

Citing that several police stations are now forced to function from one building or premises—Kancharapalem and Airport, Dwaraka and IV-Town, and MVP and III-Town—owing to lack of space, Mr. Laddha pointed out that this arrangement was causing a lot of inconvenience not only to the department personnel, but also to the visitors.

“A part of the funds will also be spent on the construction of five to six new police station buildings, along with the offices for Zone ACPs.

A few months ago, District Collector Pravin Kumar had allotted a piece of land to the City Police for moving all the stolen vehicles that were recovered during the investigations of cases. This had solved the space issue to an extent.

“Earlier, a major portion of the approach roads to police stations were occupied by the recovered vehicles. We have also urged the Collector to provide us with some land to build the new police stations,” said ADCP (Administration) K. Mahendra Patrudu.

Separate DCP offices

Plans are also afoot to have two separate DCP offices in the city. One may come up in the city limits, while the other will be in Gajuwaka, Mr. Patrudu added.
