The Visakhapatnam Public Library, has got a new refurbished look. The entire 8,000 sft in the first floor of the library has undergone a makeover.
Inaugurating the new facility, GVMC Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan on Saturday said that students should get a good ambience to read and the refurbished look of the library will serve them well.
Apart from new flooring, painting and decors, the seating capacity in the reading rooms have been enhanced from 160 to about 230.
Apart from increasing the seating space and area that holds books and journals, we have provided two air-conditioned rooms for Civils and other competitive examination aspirants, said library Secretary D.S. Varma.
We also have started a career orientation section for the students who intend to write various competitive examinations, he added.
According to Mr. Varma, the idea is to give students the right ambience to study.
Ambience matters a lot. It motivates the students to study hard and prepare for various examinations, said MLA (North) P. Vishnu Kumar Raju, who was present at the inauguration.
But the unique feature is that the library will now run on green power.
Visakhapatnam MP K. Haribabu inaugurated the 55 kw rooftop solar power plant. The plant will generate close to 230 units, which will meet the library’s power needs.
Free Wi-Fi
Mr. Varma also informed that free Wi-Fi facility has been provided in the library.
HPCL has come forward to donate the new furniture, said Mr. Varma.
