District Collector A. Mallikarjuna has instructed the officials to prepare proposals to provide all basic amenities in the King George Hospital (KGH). He took part in the Hospital Development Committee meeting along with Superintendent P. Mythili and the Health Department officials at the hospital here on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Dr. Mythili informed Mr. Mallikarjuna that there was a need for arranging tables and lights in some operation theatres and some wards need beds, fans and other equipment. She said that M.R.I machine is not functioning well for the past few days and repairs need to be taken up. She also proposed the need for CRM devices.

The District Collector instructed the officials to resume MRI scanning immediately either by repairing it or by taking some alternative measures. He asked them to procure the needed equipment on a war-footing. He gave an administrative sanction of ₹8 lakh for procuring emergency equipment, ₹10 lakh for arranging water plant and ₹2.8 lakh for maintenance of electric sub-station. He also asked the department heads to prepare list of requirements and send the proposals.

Visakhapatnam South MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar, District Medical and Health Officer K. Vijaya Lakshmi and other staff members were present.

After the meeting, the Collector visited the Bhavanagar Ward at KGH and expressed dissatisfaction on the maintenance of wards and toilets. “Will you maintain toilets in your home the same way?,” Mr. Mallikarjuna questioned sanitary inspector of the ward.

He visited the surroundings of the block and enquired patients about the medical facilities being provided. He noticed that water purifier was not working at all. He also found that the ceiling and the windows of the ward were not in a good condition. Instructing the Superintendent to take up repair works at the earliest, he also asked the senior doctors to find a suitable place to construct another ‘Sulabh Complex’.
