Visakhapatnam: CPI(M) leader opposes extension of ‘notified area’ status to Gangavaram Port

The orders issued by the State government extending the ‘notified area’ status, which was given to Gangavaram Port in the past, by another three years, should be withdrawn immediately, B. Ganga Rao, CPI(M) floor leader in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and 78th Ward Corporator, has demanded.

In a letter to Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday, Mr. Ganga Rao, demanded that the orders on extension of ‘notified area’ status, issued on April 12, and orders reappointing the Gangavaram Port Notified Area Committee be cancelled. He said that exemption of Gangavaram Port from the purview of the GVMC was a violation.

He alleged that the extension was being done to favour the Gangavaram Port to exempt it from payment of various dues and to give tax concessions.

Mr. Ganga Rao appealed to the Chief Minister to withdraw the extension of notified area status given to the port.
