VCCI appeals to PM on railway zone

May 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:01 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The Vizagapatam Chamber of Commerce (VCCI) has appealed to the Prime Minister to come out with an early announcement on the proposed new railway zone in Andhra Pradesh.

In a letter to the Prime Minister on Monday, VCCI vice-president A.V. Monish Row noted that NDA government was completing one year in office but so far there has neither been an announcement on the new railway zone from the ministry concerned nor has there been any bill prepared for introduction in Parliament.

The AP Reorganisation Act envisages a new railway zone. The citizens of north Andhra have been agitating for many years for a railway zone at Visakhapatnam, which fell on deaf years. The AP Reorganisation Bill gives sanctity to the demand and the Railway Ministry can easily introduce the Bill in Parliament and it would get widespread support.

Mr. Monish Row appealed to the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter to resolve the railway zone issue.
