Varuna yagam

It’s ill-timed, says Sarada Peetham seer

May 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Sri Swaroopnandendra Swamy of Sarada Peetham took exception to TTD conducting Varunayagam for rain even as several parts of the State and the country were reeling under untimely rain. “Varuna yagam” should be performed if there was no rain in rainy season. During summer cracks appear in the earth and once rains occur it would give good yield, the Swamy said in a statement.

Last year, the then Executive Officer M.G. Gopal had assured him that it would not be repeated. The incumbent EO perhaps was not aware of it and was misled by some, he said. Instead of the yagam, the TTD should have opened water kiosks all over the State, he said.
