The BJP on Tuesday launched its campaign for the 13 Seemandhra districts from here seeking a vote for its prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi to get justice for Seemandhra and fulfil all the promises made owing to the efforts of BJP in the Rajya Sabha.
State unit president K. Haribabu, Campaign Committee convener and former Union Minister D. Purandeswari, another former Union minister and actor Krishnam Raju, party Election Committee convener Somu Veerraju were present at the meeting.
Comparing UPA Government’s promises to the hardly seen celestial star Arundhati during the wedding rituals, Ms. Purandeswari questioned its commitment to develop the Seemandhra region recalling that the 32 official amendments were rejected in the Lok Sabha and other assurances by the Prime Minister were made only owing to the intervention of BJP leaders Venkaiah Naidu and Arun Jaitley. Being a Union Minister, she had to go to the Opposition members to safeguard the interests of Seemandhra, she recalled. She said BJP had credibility as it was committed to two states and their development and only Mr. Modi had the ability to deliver on the promises.
Mr. Haribabu took exception to the statement of TRS leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao on changing the design of Polvaram and said it was made by engineers but not by political leaders like KCR. Also KCR wanted de-merger with the pre-1956 status in which Bhadrachalam was a part of East Godavari district. When BJP carved out three States employees had option and it should be applicable now also, he said. .
The people of Seemandhra would have a moral right to press for fulfilment of assurance if they vote for Mr. Modi and could not ask the same if they vote for the other parties, he said. Actor Krishnam Raju who pepped up the spirit of the audience said the feeling among a section that BJP had given a raw deal to Seemandhra could be addressed if Modi became Prime Minister.
Mr. Veerraju described BJP as an ideological party as opposed to YSR and Chandrababu Naidu who had no ideology.
