The State-wide universities bandh, organised under the aegis of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Students Federation of India (SFI), seeking implementation of Special Category Status (SCS) for AP and declaration of railway zone with headquarters in Visakhapatnam, was successful held in the city on Wednesday.
The bandh was successful at Andhra University, Gitam, Petro University and IIM-Visakhapatnam with students voluntarily participating in the bandh, according to DYFI assistant secretary V.V. Srinivasa Rao.
Rally
The students took out a rally from the Andhra University College of Engineering (AUCE) to the Three Town Police Station and a protest meeting was held at Gitam Deemed to be University.
Addressing the dharna DYFI and SFI leaders U.S.N. Raju and Priyanka criticised the BJP and TDP governments on SCS and other promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act.
