Tourists flock to Lambasingi to ‘chill’ out

January 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:48 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Number of tourists visiting Lambasingi in the Visakha Agency has gone up during the last few days as the temperature started dipping and reached one degree Celsius on Saturday morning.

The village, about 100 km from here on way to Chintapalli, and located more than 1000 meters above sea level amidst thick forest and with streams around it, has become the new tourist destination during the recent years as people wanted to enjoy the zero degree temperature being recorded there once in a few years.

On December 21 the temperature at Lambasingi was zero degree and people are fondly hoping that the same is repeated in a day or two. It is interesting to note that Christmas and Bhogi-Sankranti festival coincided with the zero degree chilly weather in the past. On December 25, 2012 and during the intervening nights of January 12-13, 2013 the much sought after thing happened and people hope that the same could be enjoyed in the next few days. The chilly winds blowing from north India support their hope. Temperature has gone up in the area during the last few days due to a low pressure over the Bay of Bengal and since no system is around and chilly winds are continuing the zero degree experience should happen, predict the people.

People can move along the road, which makes up the small village and have to contend with tea, coffee and snacks available at the few small kiosks.

The zero temperature is recorded during wee hours, from around 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. and by 10 a.m. of 11 a.m. the fog will clear and the tourists have to return to their places. Chintapalli recorded 4 degrees, Paderu 3 degrees, famous tourist spot Araku Valley 6 degrees and many spots on the ghat roads from Visakhapatnam recorded temperature ranging from 4 to 7 degrees.

Though the chilly weather is attracting tourists, agriculture operations and daily chores of villagers is affected as they are left with a few hours of sun to complete their work.

Employees and students find it hard to reach their offices and schools and colleges as moving on the roads engulfed by heavy fog is difficult.
