The Government Railway Police on Saturday arrested six of a seven-member gang and recovered nearly 200 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs. 6 lakh from them.
GRP Inspector G. Koteswara Rao said that they were trying to nab the leader of the gang Amar whose whereabouts were not known. The arrested included Bablu Kumar (28), Santosh Kumar (26), Ajay Kumar (32), Amit Kumar (27), Hirash (19) and Amar Kumar (32). All of them were Govindpur area of Kajaria district of Bihar.
The gang used to travel in the sleeper class compartments and steal the luggage of the passengers. The gang was involved in five offences in Andhra Pradesh including three under in the limits of GRP here.
Three held
In another case, three persons were arrested by II Town Police on the charge of attempting to murder three members of their rival gang by attacking and stabbing with iron rods and knife. Police said G. Praveen Kumar (30), Ch. Jagadeesh (26) and V. Rajendra Kumar (28), residents of Bhanojinagar area, were arrested for trying to assault their rivals with lethal weapons.
CI P.V. Ramana said the gang was not seeing eye-to-eye with the victim P. Ramesh and his associates. Police said in Bhanojinagar area the two gangs had a long time rivalry and recently they had a wordy duel over a dispute on organising Ganesh festival.
