The NMT vision for city

October 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Building and retrofitting roads with walking and cycling infrastructure and a public bike-sharing (PBS) network form the major ideas for non-motor transport (NMT) vision of Visakhapatnam.

The step-by-step vision suggests that all 430-km of arterial and sub-arterial roads should be upgraded with walking infrastructure and road with right of way (ROW) of 30 m or more should have segregated cycle tracks.

PBS network

A special recommendation has been made for the Beach Road suggesting a cycling track and bicycle parking facilities.

PBS network with coverage of 3 km radius around main public transit lines, including the proposed Metro and BRTS, and feeder lines should be built, says the report submitted at a workshop at GVMC on Thursday.

NMT infrastructure upgrade should also get priority in the first and last mile connectivity in the transit influence zones.
