Survey on conditions in government schools taken up

Following orders from the State government, the Education Department is taking up a survey to study the condition of government schools in the district, under the project School Transformation Monitoring System (STMS). Using a designated STMS mobile application, the survey is being conducted in over 350 government schools in Munchingput mandal and Visakhapatnam urban area.

As part of the survey, the headmasters, Mandal Education Officers and other heads were asked to take the photographs of facilities of the schools, infrastructure and upload them on the STMS app.

“Right from fans, tables, drinking water facility, toilets, playground, everything needs to be captured and uploaded on the mobile application. Details should be given over the requirement and actual position. For example in the case of toilets, the official should mention the number of toilets, number of students using them, whether the toilets are in working condition etc,” District Educational Officer (DEO) B Lingeswara Reddy said explaining how the STMS survey is being conducted in the district to The Hindu.

Mr. Reddy also said that the survey has been going on at a brisk pace. Once the facts are sent to the government, it would come up with plan how to take up the modernisation works, he added.

It was learnt that data from number of schools from urban mandals has already been collected and sent to higher officials, while several schools in Munchingput are yet to be done.

According to sources, several schools in the interior part of Munchingput mandal lack basic amenities and officials are updating the info.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said that within two years, he would provide amenties in all government schools.
