Probe into the alleged court surety forgery racket case in which 13 persons were arrested on October 30 has revealed that the offence committed was much bigger than initially thought of.

Initial investigation suggested that the accused were allegedly involved in around 150 forgery cases, but further probe has revealed that the accused were involved in 219 cases reported from six different courts in Visakhapatnam district.

According to MR Peta inspector R. Chowdhary, the police had taken two main accused G. Koteswara Rao and A. Surya Narayana into police custody for three more days, after obtaining special permission from the court.

Murder charges

“Apart from NDPS and road accident cases, there are a few murder cases too in which the gang had allegedly impersonated surety. Now, we are verifying the records pertaining to the case and seeking legal opinion. The investigation is in progress,” The inspector said.

It may be recalled that the police busted the gang on October 30 and the members were arrested on charges of forging documents required for impersonating surety and obtaining bail for many accused in various cases since 2016.
