Water supply to several parts of the city was restored partially on Tuesday after two days of disruption owing to the breach developed in the Yeleru canal.

The supply was hit on Sunday and Monday after the canal developed a six-metre breach at Makavarapalem on April 18. With the officials regulating the water release at the reservoir to minimise the loss, it resulted in a reduced flow.

Even after the breach was plugged on Saturday, water was released in small quantities as a new bund was laid at the point of breach. As it takes three days Kanithi Balancing Reservoir gets water through the canal, the regular supply to the city was hit on Sunday and Monday.

On Monday, the supply to Zone III and IV was restored. According to the officials, the supply became normal to the city by Tuesday, except for the Zone I.

Situation reviewed

“Water supply to Zone I including Madhurawada area will be restored by Wednesday,” Municipal Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan said here on Tuesday after reviewing the situation.

He also visited the TSR Complex to oversee whether the order of priority was being followed in the supply of water tankers to the areas facing water woes.
