Super Bazaar looking at Rs. 50 cr. turnover next year, says chairman

December 29, 2013 01:57 pm | Updated 01:57 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The Visakhapatnam Cooperative Central Stores, popular as Super Bazaar, aims to achieve a turnover of Rs. 50 crore during 2014-15 and is confident of reaching this year’s target of Rs. 35 crore as it has already made Rs. 25 crore so far, its chairman R. Ramakrishnam Raju informed.

The turnover for this year has increased from last year’s Rs. 26 crore due to Super Bazaar participating in open tenders for supply of material to the Woman and Child Welfare Departments in Guntur, Anantapur and Mahabubnagar and securing bids in spite of stiff competition. This business accounts for Rs. 8 crore to Rs. 10 crore.

Mr. Ramakrishnam Raju, who addressed the press conference along with Managing Director D. Srinivasa Raju, a Director V. Parvateeswara Rao and Vice-Chairman B. Gurunadha Rao, urged the people’s representatives to help in increasing the business.

Lease amount

The lease amount from Vizag Central, reaching Rs. 2.7 lakh per month now, and rents from other shops in the adjacent building were taking care of employees’ salaries and the Super Bazaar has to realise dues amounting to Rs. 32 lakh from various government departments including the City Police and Collectorate. It is seeking exemption of stamp duty of Rs. 28 lakh for registration of 2,200 square yards of land it owns in Auto Nagar.

During his recent visit, Civil Supplies Minister Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy assured to look into the request to exempt it from paying EMD while making bids for supply of material. It is also seeking waiver of interest and penal interest on the loans taken from the National Cooperative Development Council. To expand its business, the Super Bazaar is planning to reintroduce its mobile market; open stalls in Rytu Bazaars and open a big self-service counter in a prominent residential area where there is a lot of business potential. It also has plans to sell fruits and vegetables at its counters by tying up with farmers.

As its present building needed major repairs, the governing body is also thinking of giving on lease the 1,990 square yards premises. All care would be taken to retain the identity of Super Bazaar, Mr. Raju assured.
