Probe sought into suicides of students

Several corporate colleges remained closed on Monday following a call given by student organisations in protest against suicide of students in corporate colleges.

While some institutions closed voluntarily in some bandh was enforced.

CPI(M) district committee has demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the suicide of students in corporate colleges.

CPI(M) district secretary K. Lokanadham said recommendations of various committees should be appointed and classes should be conducted after 4 p.m. and on Sunday and groups should not be changed in the name of grading.

Prescribed teacher-student ratio should be maintained and counselling centres set up in colleges, he demanded.

Action should be taken against managements when suicides occur and also colleges without permission should be closed, he said.

Dharna staged

YSRC students union went around colleges enforcing a bandh and staged a dharna at the administrative office of Narayana College at Asilmetta.

Besides a judicial inquiry, it demanded action against Narayana and Chaitanya colleges and removal of P. Narayana from the Cabinet, according to State general secretary B. Kanta Rao.

Arrests condemned

He condemned police taking into custody 10 student leaders who were peacefully agitating.
