Sri Venkateswara Kalyanam was performed to mark the birth star of Lord Venkateswara (Sravana Nakshatram), at the Turner’s Choultry, opp. Super Bazaar, here on Saturday. The event was jointly organised by the Endowments Department and the Visakhapatnam Sri Hari Seva Volunteers Welfare Association (Gopalapatnam).

The Kalyanam was performed in a traditional manner by Panangipalli Ranganadhacharyulu, priest of Sri Jagannadha Swamy temple.

Government Whip Dronamraju Srinivas was the chief guest on the occasion. Well-known persons from the city Mattapalli Chalamayya, Mavuri Venkata Ramana and Vankayala Sanyasi Raju participated as guests.

Behara Bhaskara Rao, Surisetti Srinivas and Endowments officials D. Brahmaramba, N.V.S.N. Murthy and N. Sujata offered special prayers.

Singers Changanti Sandhyasundar and S. Indira Bharadwaj presented Annammacharya Sankeertanas.

Later the ‘utsava murthies’ of Sridevi, Bhudevi sametha Sri Venkateswara Swamy were taken in a procession (Tiruveedhi Mahotsavam) from the Turner’s Choultry to Ambika Bagh via Jagadmaba Junction and returned to the Turner’s Choultry. Spiritual organisations of the city participated in the ‘Tiruveedhi Mahotsavam’.

Ms Brahmaramba, Mr. Murthy, Ms Sujata, association president P. Sudarshan Rao, secretary N. Appa Rao and Annamayya Gitanjali general secretary M.V. Rajsekhar participated in the programme.
