Over 1,000 children taken part in VUDA painting competition. The competition was held in three categories — sub-junior (up to class 3), junior (classes 4 to 6), and senior (classes 7 to 10).

Notwithstanding the inclement weather, hundreds of students came to take part in the painting competition organised by the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) on Sunday at the VUDA Children’s Theatre as part of its Children’s Day celebrations.

In all, 1,200 students from classes 1 to 10 participated in the competition and displayed their creative talent on the white canvas.

The competition was held in three categories — sub-junior (up to class 3), junior (classes 4 to 6), and senior (classes 7 to 10).

While the sub-juniors were given a free hand in presenting their creative ideas, the junior category students presented their impressions of the destruction caused by Hudhud cyclone. The senior category students portrayed the city of Visakhapatnam as a world-class smart city with their ideas of development.

Nature’s devastating effect on the City of Destiny with fallen trees and a sombre look of the city dominated the canvas as the young minds came up with thought-provoking themes and ideas to depict the impact of one of the most destructive cyclones that hit the city.

Many others came up with new ideas to recreate the greenery of the city by depicting theme parks and nurseries, and citizen group initiatives like plantation drive.

Prizes

A team of four judges will be deciding the final winners in each category and prizes will be announced on Monday.

Apart from city schools, students from Ichchapuram, Srikukalam, Vizianagaram, Anakapalle, and Kakinada also participated in the competition.

As part of the five-day celebrations, competitions in western group dance, classical group dance, inter-school quiz, folk group dance, and fancy dress will be organised from November 11 to 14 at VUDA Children’s Theatre.
