Officials tasked with completing the process in one month

GVMC has launched a special drive to complete Aadhaar seeding with property tax assessments.

With Municipal Commissioner Pravin Kumar tasking officials to complete the seeding 100 per cent in a month, ward-wise teams have been formed to complete the process.

Up to early this week, more than 50 per cent of the seeding has been completed with 2.29 lakh of the 4.35 lakh assessments so far submitting their identity. After the drive started, more were added.

The Municipal Commissioner has asked officials to couple the survey with the ongoing intensive survey on property tax assessment.

Those not linking property tax with Aadhaar may not become eligible for some of the incentives being offered, he said at a recent review on the issue.

He chalked out a plan for completion of the drive in one month. To augment the manpower, besides tax collectors, officials of the Urban Community Development wing, field felicitators, representatives of slum-level federations, and SHG members should be made part of the drive. One of the reasons for creating a database for properties and deciding ownership is that, in some cases, the same person is holding several properties. The main reason for many not coming forward is the reported changing of ownership without any legal registration. Though the GVMC carried out a Mutation Week, some are still left out as a mutation fee had to be paid.

Also, in some cases, owners of properties are abroad without the Aadhaar card, it is learnt.

GVMC launched the drive in December last but in that month only 80,000 assessees got it linked with Aadhaar. Continued efforts got it past the 50 per cent mark. However, none of the corporations are doing better, it is learnt.
