It was a momentous occasion for 106 candidates, who were selected for Sub Inspector (SI) training from Visakhapatnam Range. They were sent for training after a long wait of more than three years!

They were all smiles as they left in three special buses of RTC from the office of the Deputy Inspector General here on Saturday. DIG (Visakha Range) Soumya Mishra spoke to the candidates before they left for nine-month training at the AP Police Academy in Hyderabad.

The notification for the SI posts was issued in 2008 notification and the 5 km run was organised in 2009 and other events like long jump were conducted the next year. A written test was conducted in August last year for those who qualified in the physical efficiency tests.

In all, 108 candidates were selected from Visakhapatnam Range, which covers the three districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam. Of them two were selected for other jobs and they left. The candidates said that they had gone through a lot of struggle in view of the painfully long selection process. The unrest over the ‘free zone' and Telangana issues added to their woes and uncertainty over the selections. They were a relieved lot today and the joy was showing on their faces as they boarded the buses. They were seen off by their parents, friends and relatives.

B. Ravindra Raju, who is employed in the State Bank of India at Khammam, said it was his dream to become a police officer. “I had gone through four years of hard work for the selections,” he said.

A dream come true

E. Srinivas of Salur, who hails from an agricultural family, was happy fulfilling his father's dream of joining the police department. His father, however, failed to make it and remained an agriculturist.

Srinivas, who has done his MBA from Andhra University, says that he was also trying for Group I services.
