Rich tributes paid to Alluri Sitaramaraju

Rich tributes were paid to Manyam Veerudu Alluri Sitaramaraju here on Thursday to mark the 92nd death anniversary of the leader of the Rampa tribal uprising against the British Rule.

Representatives of all sections of society garlanded the statue of Alluri on the Beach Road. Visakha South MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar, Joint Collector J. Niwas, Andhra University Vice-Chancellor GSN Raju, CPI district secretary A.J. Stalin and CPI city secretary Prabhakar, among others were present on the occasion.

Alluri Sitaramaraju continues to be a source of inspiration for generations for his selfless service and dedication to the cause of uplift of the oppressed Girijans, Joint Collector J. Niwas said.

Alluri set an example by his willingness to surrender for the sake of Girijans who were being tortured by the British officers and his complete identification with the oppressed is worth emulating by the youth of today, Prof. Raju said.

The CPI leaders and workers raised slogans demanding renaming of Visakhapatnam district as Alluri Sitaramaraju District as the freedom fighter spent most of his life in the district and was captured and martyred in the district. Andhra University student leaders, including Hemant, Suresh Menon and others, were also present.

Rich tributes were paid to the martyr at the statue of Alluri Sitaramaraju at Seetammadhara also.
