Relief yet to reach cyclone-hit: YSRC

May 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The government is yet to initiate permanent relief measures for the victims of Hudhud cyclone in the city though various public and private sector organisations have donated hundreds of crores of rupees to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, according to YSR Congress leader Peethala Murthy Yadav. Addressing a media conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Yadav said that the government had promised pucca houses to fishermen, slum- dwellers, and the poor. The victims were still residing in the damaged houses.

He alleged that the inauguration of the pylon for construction of permanent houses for Hudhud victims of Jalaripeta was put off following criticism that the programme was being taken up without finalising the beneficiaries and the number of houses to be constructed.

Though over one lakh families were affected by the cyclone, according to preliminary estimates of the Revenue Department, only 6,000 beneficiaries were identified for construction of houses, he said.
