If fruit packs, cleansing creams and lotions are what people consider to enhance their appearance, facial yoga expert Rashmi Sharma offers simple techniques to stay young and rejuvenated. She says that one would look much younger by sparing just 20 minutes a day practising facial yoga techniques.
At an in-house session organised by The Hindu , Ms. Rashmi says that facial yoga is popular in Japan, Korea and Philippines and is gradually picking up in India over the past few years.
Like how our body needs exercise to keep it toned and strengthened, Rashmi says our face too requires specific stretches and movements to keep the facial muscles healthy and wrinkle-free. “The regimen is non-surgical, chemical-free and much simpler to follow. But, it has to be learnt from an expert because practising wrong techniques and application of pressure at wrong spots bring in negative results,” cautions the Delhi-based fitness consultant.
Starting from the forehead, Rashmi demonstrated facial yoga techniques that relax the jaw lines, helps eliminate fine lines on the face, removes double chin and gets rid of puffiness below the eyes and straightens laughter lines, crow’s feet and fine wrinkles that become an inevitable part of prominent features after certain age. “There are more than 80 facial expressions that one can practise as a part of this regimen like ballooning and blowing. However, the result varies based on one’s skin tone, genetic factors and condition of the skin,” says the certified facial yoga expert who came to the city on Tuesday.
Rashmi says that facial yoga yields better results if it is combined with select asanas such as ‘sirsasana’, ‘halasana’, ‘dhanurasana’ and ‘parvatasana’ as the combination helps improves blood circulation, making the skin look supple, firmer and youthful.
Along with practising facial exercises, the expert also emphasises the need to get enough sleep, spend some ‘me-time’ engaging in a favourite activity and lead a stress-free life.
