Mystery behind the murder of Chittimojula Swati (24), a woman Railway technician at S. Kota Railway electrical traction substation on the night of May 11 has been solved with the arrest of her colleague Kaalla Gopi (44) and three other petty offenders - G. Madhusudhan (25), Chukka Pavan Kumar (20) and Modandi Mohan Raju (21) of Kothavalasa and recovered jewellery that they had taken away from her possession.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police Navdeep Singh Grewal said that the accused Gopi, who was transferred on promotion to Jagadalpur, hatched a plan along with the three petty offenders to eliminate Swati when his appeal to his superiors to retain him at S. Kota was turned down. The SP said Gopi had been selling railway scrap stealthily to clear his debts, about Rs.45 lakh. And that was the reason why he wanted to stay back, the SP said.
Disclosing details of the incident, the SP said that the four accused had entered the sub-station at around 9.50 p.m. on that day and covered the face of Parvati, an assistant of Swati with a gunny bag from behind and clubbed Swati to death and escaped with gold jewellery and mobile phones thus portraying it as a case of murder for gain.
The accused had left no clue at the spot. A special team that was constituted with 27 police personnel, including two DSPs, 3 CIs and 6 SIs, interrogated about 200 people and tracked the mobile phones, which led to their arrest.
