The details of 2,500 domestic helps, covering 16 points, were gathered as part of a model project survey, being carried out by Dhan Foundation in association with MEPMA, in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) limits.
Survey
Details about family members, social and financial status, expectations from their employers (owners) and from the government were gathered as part of the survey.
The project would find ways and means to provide skill training to the domestic helps and also to provide alternative employment, according to P. Rajeswari of Kranthi Nagar Kalanjia Federation.
She said nine common interest groups (CIG s) were formed with 50 members in each group in GVMC wards 35, 36 and 37 during the last two days.
The CIGs were meant to represent to the government on the various problems of the domestic helps.
Each CIG would have five office bearers – president, secretary, vice president, joint secretary and treasurer – who would provide services to the other members and involve them in various programmes to be conducted by the group.
Federation representatives Kumari, Kondamma, Someswari, Harini, Pushpa and Ramanamma were among those who participated in the formation of the CIG.
