Pollution-hit to be rehabilitated

September 05, 2011 12:17 pm | Updated 12:17 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation would take steps to rehabilitate the people of Pittavanipalem, Devada and Marididasaripalem who have been severely affected by pollution, Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanajaneyulu said on Sunday after a visit to the 53rd ward.

He assured the people that a satellite township under the Rajiv Awas Yojna would be provided to them with all basic amenities, when they pleaded with him that they could not live in the area since it was surrounded by the NTPC power plant's ash pond, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and the proposed Hinduja power plant and wanted to be shifted to another area. Mr. Ramanjaneyulu asked Additional Commissioner K. Ramesh to prepare a detailed report on the problems faced by people. New roads and drains were proposed in Sai Nagar and SC Colony.

Mr. Ramanjaneyulu said the half-completed reservoir would be completed and a shopping complex could come up in the area marked for cremation ground since it was not being used for the purpose. He inspected the JNNURM housing complex at Madinabaugh.

Local corporator Tippala Nagireddy, Zonal Commissioner Srinivasa Rao, Superintending Engineers Venugopala Rao and Surya Jyothi, ACP Vijaya Bhaskar, and AMO Anand accompanied the Commissioner.
