There is no shortage of funds for the expansion of KGH and also the development of Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Minister for Medical Education Kondru Murali said.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, the Minister said that he was taking all steps to ensure the development of the medical facilities in the region.

He denied reports of death due to outbreak of dengue in the district and said that 19 persons from Dopperla village in Atchyutapuram mandal in the district had been admitted to hospital and out of them one person was confirmed to be suffering from dengue. The infected person has been given medicine and he is cured, the Minister said. There has been one death from the village, but it was not due to dengue, he asserted.

The victim was a kidney patient, he said and added that the victim’s relatives did not allow the doctors to take a blood sample to confirm the cause of death.

Lakshmipeta

Terming the carnage at Lakshmipeta village in Vangara mandal of Srikakulam district as an unfortunate incident, Kondru Murali said that the government was taking all steps to ensure that the perpetrators were punished.

He said that the government had already paid Rs.5 lakh to families of each of the five victims and was taking steps to offer employment to the next of kin. All the children from the 80 families who were studying have been admitted into state social welfare residential schools, Mr. Murali said.

Fast track court

There was a fast track court in Srikakulam for taking up cases under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act and that court would try the case. However, if it was felt that the court was not able to cope with the load, the Government would take steps to establish a new fast track court to take up these cases.
