NMU launches mass hunger strike

January 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

A two-day mass hunger strike was launched by RTC employees owing allegiance to the National Mazdoor Union (NMU) at the Maddlilapalem Depot on Thursday to protest against the ‘indifference of the management’ towards their problems.

The main demands of the employees include: restoration of some of the buses that were withdrawn in recent past to meet the needs of passengers, replacement of old buses with new ones, filling of vacancies that arose as a result of retirement and death of employees, provision of employment to children of deceased employees, regularisation of contract employees as per the orders of the head office, action against unauthorised tour operators and provision of toilet facilities for women conductors at all the bus terminals.
