Non-domestic connections to come under commercial

GVMC has planned to convert non-commercial supply to commercial supply by including new categories and increase the water tariff. The new categories proposed to be introduced are commercial, institutional and industrial.

There are several house service connections (HSC) in below poverty line, general and other categories. The reason behind the conversion is using the supply under HSC for commercial purposes in the three categories.

As of now GVMC has HSC, bulk and semi-bulk connection categories.

The connections now proposed to be brought under new categories are paying property tax under commercial category but water tax under HSC.

GVMC now proposes to bring them under category in view of use for non-domestic purposes.

“Someone who runs a business, or institution like school or some industry will now have to pay the new revised rates once the process is completed,” said sources.

For half-inch HSC the present tariff is ₹120 and for three-fourths inch ₹160 per month. GVMC now proposes to increase it to ₹480 and ₹740 respectively.

The Council Resolution i.e., the approval of the Special Officer had been obtained for the introduction of new categories.

GVMC has invited objections from public on the proposal which should be conveyed by August 22.

As of now there are 1.99 lakh HSCs of which 70,143 are BPL connections.

It is estimated that at least 10,000 HSCs fall under the three categories proposed to be introduced.

The new tariff is expected to be introduced once the gazette notification is made.

GVMC expects the revenue per annum to go up from ₹4 crore to ₹5 crore after the new categories come into force.
