Recently the police arrested two members of a six-member inter-State gang from Bihar. They robbed two cell phone shops and made good with a number of cell phones. The gang members belonged to a village on the Bihar-Nepal border and were seasoned burglars.
They committed a number of similar offences in different parts of AP including Vijayawada.
What worries the police is their modus operandi . In most of the cases it has been seen that the gang members arrive a few days before the heist. They stay at different places by taking houses on rent. They do not even maintain cell contact and meet in person everyday at a common rendezvous point to do the planning. The gang members also do a recce of the shops or houses that they intend to loot and prepare a proper gateway plan. They leave no clues and that keeps the police baffling, said ADCP (Crimes) S. Varadaraju.
In the last two years the city police busted over 20 gangs which operated across at least three states.
“It is difficult to arrest them, as it requires a well-coordinated inter-state police operation, said DCP (Crimes) T. Ravi Kumar Murthy.
Most of the gangs hailed from states such as Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar and Chhattisgarh. And they are professional in their job and at times even armed and dangerous.
According to the police, they have good communication skills and can easily convince the locals that they are good people, employees in a decent company and are looking for a house for rent. They know how to conduct a recce and in the process check out the minute details that are necessary to commit the burglary.
They prepare proper sketch and then commit the crime as per the , said Mr. Varadaraju.
