Modern abattoir by November: Pravin

GVMC Commissioner Pravin Kumar has directed officials to ensure the modern abattoir coming up at Marikavalasa is ready by November.

Reviewing the progress of works on the abattoir here on Friday, the Commissioner directed the officials to ensure hygiene and clean surroundings. He also directed the officials to ensure the meat was supplied to all shops, and asked them to convene a meeting with all meat vendors at the earliest.

A committee would be formed to work out the price of meat, he said.

Additional Commissioners G.V.V.S. Murthy, S.S. Varma, Examiner of Accounts Y. Mangapathi Rao, Joint Director of Animal Husbandry Department Venkateswara Rao, AMOH Jayaram, and representatives of the abattoir — Mohammad Naseeruddin, Ravi Patnaik, Nazir Ansari and Mohammad Salim Qureshi — attended the meeting.

Night shelters

The Commissioner visited the sites where new night shelters were coming up and inspected the progress of works. He visited the buildings under construction near NSTL, Bhupesh Nagar, and at the Collectorate on Friday.

He also inspected the garbage segregation centres at Arilova and Vepagunta and directed the officials to ensure garbage was segregated at the household-level.

He was accompanied by Superintendent Engineer Marianna and zonal commissioners.
