‘Minister responds positively to demand for 24/7 operation at airport’

It may be recalled that the Finance Ministry had earlier rejected the demand by the Defence Ministry for sanction of additional manpower for 24/7 operations at the airport.

Union Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena and Finance Secretary (Expenditure) Sumit Bose responded positively to the demand for sanction of additional manpower for 24/7 operations at Visakhapatnam Airport. They agreed to do the needful in this regard when Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development D. Purandeswari, who represents Visakhapatnam in the Lok Sabha, met them in New Delhi on Wednesday.

It may be recalled that the Finance Ministry had earlier rejected the demand by the Defence Ministry for sanction of additional manpower for 24/7 operations at the airport.

Ms. Purandeswari underlined the need to need for getting permission for Silk Air to get approvals and to connect Vizag globally.

She impressed on the need for sanction of additional manpower at Vizag airport. She clarified that the development and investments to the region were directly linked to this, and from the defence point of view also it is very essential to have 24/7 operations.

They promised to revisit the files and promised positive action soon.

VATA leaders O. Naresh Kumar and Ch. Ramakotaiah described it as a ‘positive development’.

Rajya Sabha Member T. Subbarami Reddy arranged an interaction between the Defence Secretary Umakant Sarma and Principal Secretary (Infrastructure and Investments), Government of AP, Sunil Sharma and District Collector Lav Agarwal in Delhi on Wednesday.

Mr. Reddy also held discussions with the Defence and Finance officials and the Chairman of the Airports Authority of India in Delhi and they were all optimistic on getting 24/7 operations at Vizag Airport.
