IT hub: The Tower-B of Millenium Tower at Rushikonda in Visakhapatnam is expected to be ready for operations by October, say officials.

The Tower-A of Millennium Tower, the super-structure built at a cost of ₹100 crore at Rushikonda will become operational on February 15.

An announcement to this effect has been made by IT Minister Nara Lokesh through a tweet. He stated that “this new landmark of Vizag will be home to many IT and BPO companies that will create several hundred jobs for local residents.”

A G.O. has been issued allotting 1 lakh sft built-up space in four floors of the building for six months without any charges to Conduent, a global leader in digital interactions with operations in 35 countries.

The Tower-A has a total built-up area of 2 lakh sft, in addition to the parking area of 1.5 lakh sft in two floors. On expiry of the period, it will be re-allotted at a rental of ₹30 per sft to Conduent, which has already started its BPO operations in two rented buildings at the Madhurawada IT Special Economic Zone. Developed by the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), the Millennium Tower have two buildings named Tower-A and B.

Now, finishing touches are being given to the Tower-A as the deadline for its launch by Conduent is nearing. The construction of Tower-B will cost ₹55 crore.

The IoT enabled building has been built to withstand high wind speed keeping in view the city’s experience when Cyclone Hudhud ravaged several buildings in 2014.

5,000 jobs in two years

Conduent has promised to create 5,000 jobs in two years after signing MoU with the State government last year to help its Indian arm to globally deliver innovation in technology, transportation, healthcare, public safety, HR, process automation and operational excellence.

Conduent claims to be world’s leading provider of diversified business process services with emphasis on transaction processing, automation and analytics. The Conduent India has its operations across 10 cities with a workforce of around 13,000.

Parking for 500 cars

“The Tower-A has 10 floors and two of them will serve as perking places for 500 cars. We have earmarked 1.5 lakh sft exclusively for parking lots. The Tower-B with eight floors and a total built-up space of 1 lakh sft is expected to be ready for operations by October,” APIIC Zonal Manager C. Yettirajulu said, adding that the construction has been entrusted to KPC Constructions of Hyderabad.

The work on Tower-B has been taken up simultaneously with Tower-A. After six months, if Conduent scales up operations, the remaining four floors of Tower-A will also be allotted to the company, he added.
