May 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Steps will be taken to set up Meteorological Centre in the State soon, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Y. Sujana Chowdary said.

The Union Minister visited the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) here on Saturday and interacted with its Director, officers and staff.

CWC Director B. Ramachandra Rao appealed to the Minister for enhancing the staff strength and upgradation of the CWC.

Later interacting with the media, Mr. Chowdary underlined the need for decentralisation of various laboratories as most of them were in Hyderabad even after bifurcation. Doppler radars would be installed at various places to get more accurate data.

Referring to the lack of coordination between the Met Department and the Disaster Management agencies, he said there were plans to link them.
