Members of ‘Chaddi-baniyan’ gang arrested, booty recovered

All four accused are natives of Dahod district of Gujarat, say police

The City Police have arrested four members of the notorious ‘Chaddi-Baniyan’ gang and recovered stolen booty worth ₹8.71 lakh, including 264 gm of gold jewellery from their possession.

According to DCP (crimes) A.R. Damodhar, the gang was allegedly involved in three property offences reported in the limits of South Sub-Division in Vizag Police Commissionerate.

Earlier, the police alerted the citizens about the gang after CCTV footage procured from an apartment in Madhurawada area suggested their presence in the city.

The accused have been identified as Ram Badria (47), Kishan Badria (35), Ravoji Badria (25) and Ganava Bharat Singh (45), all natives of Sahada village of Dahod district of Gujarat.

The gang struck at various parts of the State, robbing homes and then fleeing with the valuables.

The gang members struck wearing briefs and vests, smearing oil all over their bodies, the police said.

Mother-daughter held

Meanwhile, a woman and her mother were arrested for their alleged involvement in three property offences (house burglary) reproted from Kancharapalem police station limits.

The police recovered 428 gm of gold jewellery worth ₹9.12 lakh from them.

“The accused, identified as Y. Ganga and her mother Y. Manga (70), were arrested in the past on charges of stealing from locked houses in Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, and East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts. They resumed committing crimes after their release from prison,” the DCP said.

The mother-daughter duo allegedly committed three offences in the city and a non-bailable warrant (NBW) was pending against Ganga, he added.

Gajuwaka police arrested ten people for allegedly stealing cashew nut bags from a trader. The police recovered 250 bags of cashew nuts worth ₹27.5 lakh.

In another case, five persons were arrested on charge of stealing 32 tonnes of iron rods worth ₹18 lakh. A property offender A.J. Ratnam was also held for theft and stolen gold jewellery worth ₹46,000 was seized from him, the police said.
