Meet organised on starting sickle cell anaemia treatment centre

Paderu Sub Collector Venkateswara Rao on Saturday conducted a coordination meeting with Superintendent of King George Hospital Dr G. Arjuna and Principal P.V. Sudhakar for initiation of establishment of centre of excellence for study and treatment of sickle cell anaemia and thalassemia patients in Pathology Department of Andhra Medical College/KGH, Visakhapatnam.

Mr. Venkateswara Rao also interacted with Joint Director, Tribal welfare, and Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Joint Director APSACS, regarding the requirements for starting the centre. During the meet, Dr. Sudhakar, informed that the guidelines in identification and treatment and standing operating procedures(SOPs) of the sickle cell anaemia shall be prepared and submitted to the District Collector.

Dr. A. Bhagyalakshmi, Professor of Pathology, was nominated as nodal officer for initiation of the project and communication. She said that all protocol and site identification was already done. She also stressed the need of the High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) equipment, five-part cell count analyser and budget allocation for the project. She said that this project is going to be essential and helpful for the tribal people.
