Maoists blast coffee seeds godown

Incident happens within 24 hours of setting afire earthmoving equipment in GK Veedhi mandal

February 20, 2012 11:19 am | Updated 11:19 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Within 24 hours of setting afire three earthmoving equipment in GK Veedhi mandal to warn the government not to go ahead with bauxite mining, Maoists blasted a coffee seeds godown of the AP Forest Development Corporation at Lankapakala village in the same mandal on Saturday night, demanding distribution of its coffee plantations to the Girijans.

They also searched in vain for a former dalam member Sita living in the same village, suspecting her to be a police informer. She had reportedly gone to another village the previous day and her family members left the village as soon as the Maoists entered the village.

Trees were cut and placed across the road near the village leading to Sileru before the Maoists, numbering around 50 and accompanied by nearly 60 militia members, who were reportedly led by Azad, went to the coffee pulping unit.

When they found that it had no machinery they went to the adjacent coffee seeds godown and set ablaze the weighing equipment and blasted the building with gelatine sticks.

Later they told the APFDC employees and some workers to leave the village and demanded that the APFDC distribute the coffee plantations in the area to Girijans, since they had grown them.

Condemn lathicharge

The Maoists condemned the lathicharge on Girijans at Rallagedda in Chintapalli mandal last week and arrest of Karla, a villager on the charge of participating in the distribution of coffee plantations in Balapam Panchayat to the Girijans in November 2010.

Distribution

Maoists had also distributed coffee plantations to the Girijans in the Kukmkukmpudi and Marripakalu area in GK Veedhi mandal in 2008.
