A 64-year-old man was found brutally murdered near Andhra University quarters in the limits of the Three-Town Police Station in the city in the wee hours on Thursday. The deceased was identified as B. Venkata Ramana Murthy, a retired railway employee and a resident of Kancharapalem area.
The police suspect that financial disputes and old rivalry might have been the reasons for the murder of Ramana Murthy.
As the body was found close to the residential quarters of J. Vara Prasad, a junior assistant in Andhra University, the police suspect that he might have a role in the murder.
ACP (East) A. Narasimha Murthy said that Ramana Murthy was beaten with hammer and sticks to death as they have found a number of injuries on his body.
“Based on the complaint from Murthy’s son B. Hemanth Kumar, we have registered a case and our preliminary investigation has revealed that someone known to the victim might have been involved in the heinous crime,” said Narasimha Murthy.
Sources said that the locals spotted Ramana Murthy along with Vara Prasad and his friend Jagadeesh at around 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday in Kancharapalem area and the murder took place around midnight.
