In an online fraud, a man was allegedly duped of ₹3.61 lakh which he had paid for purchasing a second-hand car.

According to Cyber Crime Inspector V. Gopinath, D.V.A.N. Raju from Visalakshi Nagar recently saw an advertisement for sale of second-hand car with a price tag of ₹ 3.80 lakh on a website. He allegedly contacted the ‘seller’ on the phone number given on the portal. Mr. Raju allegedly met the person at a place in Gajuwaka and checked the condition of the car and deposited ₹ 3.61 lakh in two instalments in the account of the ‘seller’.

“Later, Mr. Raju enquired about the delivery of the car and the ‘seller’ told him that there was some problem and he would deliver the vehicle the next day. But, he never happened. Mr. Raju realised that he was duped when he found the mobile phone of the ‘seller’ switched off,” Mr. Gopinath said.

Case registered

Acting on a complaint lodged by Mr. Raju, the Cyber Crime Police have registered a case under Section 420,419 of the IPC and 66-C 66-D of the IT Act. Investigation is on.
