Two tonnes of ganja seized from truck

In a major haul, Anakapalle Rural Police on Wednesday seized around two tonnes of dry ganja worth around Rs. 2 crore and arrested three persons when they were transporting the contraband in a truck, near Kasimkota in Visakhapatnam district. The accused have been identified as Nageswara Rao and Konda Babu of Narsipatnam area and Sattibabu of G Madugula area in the district. Anakapalle station Inspector K.M.S.V. Prasad said that acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted a truck and seized the contraband packed in gunny bags.

He said that the accused had procured the ganja from interior parts of Chintapalli mandal in the Agency area and were transporting the same to Hyderabad, adding that the kingpin in the case was a native of Hyderabad and two more persons were also involved in the illegal trade. A case has been registered under various sections of the NDPS Act, and investigation is on.
