A live workshop on complex coronary angioplasty with coronary imaging was conducted at Apollo Hospitals here on Wednesday.
Dr. Raj Dave, senior consultant cardiologist and chairman of Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hills, USA, along with Dr. D.K. Baruah, Director of Cardiac Catherisation laboratory of Apollo Hospitals and Dr. N. K. Panigrahi, Dr. D.M.R.J. Raju and Dr. A. Suresh performed various complex procedures successfully.
The highlight of the workshop was coronary imaging using latest technology of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). Dr. Baruah said Apollo Hospitals was the first in Andhra Pradesh to have this technology. The advantage of this technology was that, it could be used to study the interior of diseased artery and could be compared with normal segment apart from measuring the size, extent and nature of the disease.
He said it would be the most useful to examine the final result after stent deployment. The short and long term results after angioplasty depend on proper deployment of the stent.
Cardiologists from the city as well as from the neighbouring districts of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram attended the workshop. It was a good learning experience for young cardiologists.
