A few playful dolphins leaping out of the water, butterflies in myriad hues fluttering around, a tiled house surrounded by a green canopy, the goodness of yoga, different models of smart cities, ships sailing in rough seas, soldiers in action, and many more were brought out in varied hues and shapes by hundreds of children through their paintings.

Adding a creative touch to the themes, the little ones tried to convey a message with their drawing sheets at the Navy Painting Competition - 2015 ‘Pratibimb’ organised as part of the Navy Week celebrations by Fleet Maintenance Unit of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) on Sunday.

Armed with watercolours, sketch pens, crayons, colour pencils and brushes, students (LKG to Class X) from various schools took part in the contest under different categories like sub-junior, junior and senior.

A few landscapes, enchanting beauty of mountains, firecrackers, lamps, and candles were captured by a group of special children who made their way to Port Kalavani Indoor Stadium to have some fun with colours. Some of them were seen rubbing cotton on the canvas to give a shaded effect to the drawing.

The forum provided an opportunity for many to unleash their creativity. “We are very fond of painting and enjoy attending drawing classes regularly. Competitions such as these strengthen our friendship as they help us unite as a team to bring out a particular theme,” said Y. Hari Priya, B. Ghyanasri and Manmayee, students of Siva Sivani Public School.

After inaugurating the contest, Chief Staff Officer (Personnel & Administration), Headquarters ENC, Rear Admiral Pradeep Rana, gave away gifts to the participants. “The history of the painting competition dates back to 1978. Since then we have been organising the event annually. This year, about 200 schools have been invited and over 1,200 children, including specially-abled ones, participated in the contest with enthusiasm,” he said.

Winners in each category will walk away with trophies and attractive prizes. Certificates will be given to the participants. Awards will be given onboard a ship as part of the ‘Day at Sea’ programme scheduled on November 28.
