If May is the much-awaited month to set off on a summer vacation, it is also the right time to redo your wardrobe with a palette of refreshing colours and assorted breezy fabrics.

Keeping the evolving trends in view, local stores have come up with organic options that include khadi, cotton, mulmul, and linen, where shoppers can incorporate a combination of fabrics to look their best.

Experimenting with a blend of fabrics lends a classy look.

“For instance, khadi kurta can be incorporated with Kalamkari material, linen with cotton, and chanderi with Kalamkari. Similarly, a sari too comes with different variations like chanderi with tussar silk, khadi with chanderi, jute with tussar, and chiffon with velvet embellishment,” says Jeeja Valsraj, a fashion designer who runs Om Creations. Apart from a wide range of handloom saris, silk-kota, kota-cotton, chiffons and chanderis are also available. Moreover, these saris can be clubbed with cossette blouse that adds a touch of elegance to one’s personality. Linen kurtis, Pakistani suits, and asymmetric layered tunics are in for the season, which can be teamed up with versatile palazzos.

Cool fabrics for men

This season, men can make a style statement with classic gold stripes and cool fabrics that come in bold shades.

M.A. Riaz Khan of Raymond Shop says, “Cool Wool fabrics are best suited for the season. The texture is absolutely lightweight and goes through a different kind of treatment before hitting the shelves. This particular variety comes in blended forms to suit one’s budget.”

If bright hues like yellow, orange, peach, blue, red, pink, and candy green have hit the market, floral prints continue to be in focus.

Catering to the fashion segment and to stay in tune with the moods of the season, Fabindia has launched a new collection called ‘Summer Florals’.

Apart from Indian and western wear, tunics, short tops, bright hued palazzos, and long skirts have been stacked in the shelves.

For men, a selection of crisp white kurtas are available.
